Indiana has a rich history of war memorials. Indianapolis alone hosts more war memorials that any other city in the United States except Washington, D C. War memorials and monuments serve as sites which allow us to commemorate the service of people during times of war, honor the sacrifices made on the battlefield and on the home front, offer places for reflection and sorrow, and environments for recalling our shared history. Indiana war memorials include large monuments, statues, plazas, and parks. Memory gardens, military headstones, and bronze markers can be found in most cemeteries. County and city names as well as schools, community centers, and even, streets carry the names of those whose service we honor.  This site offers a look at the war memorials found throughout Indiana, honoring the service of Hoosiers and expressing gratitude to all who have made sacrifices that we may enjoy freedom and peace.
